Correspondence of Besant and of his literary agent A.P. Watt concerns publication arrangements for Besant's work. Fourteen letters from Besant to Watt discuss various offers from publishers, mention his collaborator W.H. Pollock, and his [final?] illness. Correspondence between publishers and Watt pertain to the purchase of publication rights to Besant's works by a variety of newspapers and magazines. Specific topics include the higher price paid for a work by Wilkie Collins, competition with H. Rider Haggard, disagreement with the John Jacob Astor estate over American copyright, negotiations for a second edition of his history of Jerusalem, and negotiations over the posthumous publication of his autobiography. Three letters of his nephew P.M. Besant concern publication requests after his uncle's death.
